The political stars have been coming to Georgia. I’m less interested in the speeches, the rallies and the star power than I should be.
In my working days, I liked stories that were grounded in factual details. I think the Atlanta Journal-Constitution has done some interesting work comparing early voting this year with early voting in the last midterms. The newspaper reported these numbers:
• Percent increase in Black voters: 33.
• Percent increase in voters under 30: 54.
• Percent increase in Black voters under 30: 80.
Voter turnout in the South is so dismal it’s fair to say that elections depend on who shows up.
The current occupant of the White House is unpopular in Georgia. He is especially unpopular with Black voters and young voters.
It’s probably me, but I think those numbers are more interesting than the coverage of the speeches and rallies.
